Roblox Launches AI Tool to Instantly Create In-Game Items
Roblox has unveiled a beta version of its AI-powered Text-to-3D tool, allowing users to generate interactive 3D models directly in-game by simply typing commands. This upgrade marks a major step forward from last year’s version, emphasizing functional items over static display models. The announcement comes after Roblox’s stock, along with Nintendo and Take-Two, dipped sharply due to Google’s launch of Google Genie, an AI-powered virtual world creator.
How It Works
Initially, the tool supports two main structures: drivable four-wheeled vehicles and single-mesh objects. Demonstrations show the AI creating everything from airplanes to candy guns within seconds, allowing players to bring their imagination to life without complex 3D modeling skills.
Testing in the game Wish Master revealed over 160,000 objects generated by the AI in just six months. Laksh, the game’s developer, noted that players using the feature increased their average playtime by 64%, demonstrating that empowering players to create content enhances engagement and attachment.
Future Vision
Anupam Singh, Roblox’s Senior VP of Engineering, stated that the ultimate goal is to support 4D objects and behaviors of any imaginable type. Internally, Roblox is also researching Real-time Dreaming, a project shown by CEO Dave Baszucki where environments can transform in real-time—such as a village turning into a ship at sea facing a tsunami—through voice or text commands.
While AI tools like Google Genie are impressive, Take-Two’s Karl Slatoff commented that they often resemble interactive videos rather than fully functional game engines. Roblox aims to integrate AI into actual gameplay systems for tangible results and business viability.
