Director directly denies rumors ahead of release
For those who have been closely following Resident Evil Requiem, it is already known that the latest entry in Capcom’s iconic survival horror series is scheduled to launch on February 27, which is now just about one month away. The game will be available across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC, covering all major platforms.
Director shuts down online speculation
The focus of the latest news comes from an interview with Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil Requiem, who spoke with Game Informer regarding circulating online rumors. One of the most talked-about speculations suggested that the new Resident Evil title might adopt an open world structure.
Nakanishi addressed the rumor directly and made it clear that Resident Evil Requiem is not an open world game. He firmly denied the speculation and explained that the core design philosophy of this installment revolves around blending the gameplay of two protagonists, Grace and Leon, as seamlessly as possible.
According to the director, both characters feature significantly different playstyles, and the development team’s primary goal was to make these contrasting approaches coexist naturally within the same game. These two distinct styles are intended to represent the essence of the Resident Evil series itself, rather than expanding the game into an open world format.
Different protagonists, different gameplay focus
For players who are curious about how Grace and Leon differ in terms of gameplay mechanics and design philosophy, more detailed coverage is available in a previous article published by This Is Game SEA.
Resident Evil Requiem remains firmly rooted in its survival horror identity, prioritizing atmosphere, tension, and character-driven gameplay over open world exploration.
Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
