Dr.STONE Artist Boichi Pauses Posting on X Over AI Feature

Boichi, the acclaimed artist behind the popular manga Dr.STONE, has announced an indefinite pause on posting his artwork on X. The decision comes in response to a new AI feature on the platform that allows AI systems to learn from or modify creators’ works without their consent, sparking heated debate about intellectual property rights in the age of artificial intelligence.

Boichi Takes a Stand Against AI on X

In an open letter to fans on his X account, Boichi explained that this difficult decision was driven by the recent AI update on the platform, which he could not accept. He emphasized that he is not afraid of AI and recognizes its potential for the future. However, he cannot tolerate the possibility of his work being used, learned from, or monetized by AI without permission or proper compensation.

Boichi also highlighted his long-standing relationship with X, sharing that he and his Canadian collaborators had cultivated a space to engage with international fans over the years. Despite this, he has decided to move his manga and artwork to Instagram for posting, while keeping his X account active for updates and communication with fans.

The Wider Debate on AI and Creator Rights

Boichi’s move underscores broader concerns among artists regarding AI’s role in creative industries and platform policies. The key question is no longer just “what can AI do?” but rather “how should creators’ rights and works be protected?” Fans and the industry alike will be watching closely to see whether X adjusts its policies to ensure artists can share their creations safely in the future.
