Resident Evil Requiem Devs Joke That Leon’s Car “Will Definitely Survive”

Before adding “If it didn’t, no one would hire us again”
The development team behind Resident Evil Requiem recently sparked laughter among fans after addressing one of the series’ long-running jokes: vehicles never seem to survive when Leon S. Kennedy is involved. In a lighthearted interview, the team confidently stated that “the car will definitely not break this time,” before immediately undercutting it with a punchline saying that if it did, no one would want to work with them again. The playful exchange quickly became a talking point and added charm to the anticipation surrounding the next entry in the legendary survival horror franchise.
Leon’s Return and an Unexpected Partnership with Porsche
On December 12, a new promotional video and additional details for Resident Evil Requiem were released, with the third official trailer generating significant buzz. The trailer confirmed the return of Leon S. Kennedy, a fan-favorite protagonist whose presence alone dramatically raised expectations for the game. His involvement signals a major narrative and emotional anchor for long-time fans of the series.
During an interview with the game’s director and producer, the team shared an amusing behind-the-scenes story about Leon’s vehicle. Kumazawa revealed that one staff member initially reacted with concern, noting that the car looked “a bit too much like a Porsche” and questioning whether licensing issues might arise. Rather than avoiding the resemblance, the team leaned into it, officially partnering with Porsche and featuring the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT in the game.
When asked about the franchise’s reputation for destroying vehicles whenever Leon is behind the wheel, Nakanishi responded with a smile, telling fans to “wait and see.” Kumazawa quickly followed up with a joke, saying that if the Porsche were to be destroyed, no one would want to collaborate with them again. The comment served as a humorous yet confident reassurance that this collaboration is being handled with care and respect.
What to Expect from Resident Evil Requiem
Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth mainline entry in the Resident Evil series and continues the franchise’s survival horror roots. The story centers on Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a journalist who survived the T-Virus outbreak in 1998. Following Alyssa’s mysterious murder, Grace is drawn back to places tied to traumatic memories, uncovering truths connected to a forgotten city and a past that refuses to stay buried.
The game is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, positioning it as one of the most anticipated survival horror releases of the year.
THIS IS OUR SAY
If Resident Evil Requiem can balance its horror with moments of self-aware humor like this, it may prove that the series still knows exactly how to evolve without losing its soul.
