Final Fantasy VII Enhanced PC Version Confirmed for Steam Release

Final Fantasy VII Enhanced PC Version Confirmed for Steam
The original Final Fantasy VII is no longer a rare title to experience, having been officially released across modern consoles for some time. On PC, the game has been available since 2013, making it widely accessible. However, the technical standards and platform support of that version have fallen behind more recent releases. Square Enix has now confirmed that changes are coming to the PC edition on Steam.
The currently available Final Fantasy VII on Steam will soon be upgraded to a new standard version designed to deliver a smoother and more refined gameplay experience. As part of this transition, the existing version will be removed from sale. Players who already own the Steam release will receive the upgraded version at no additional cost, while the original will remain playable under the renamed 2013 Edition, though it will no longer receive future support.
It has also been confirmed that save data will not be transferable or compatible between the two versions, meaning progress from the 2013 Edition cannot be carried over to the enhanced release.
While Square Enix has not yet detailed the full list of improvements, it is expected that the new Steam version will be based on the Windows Edition previously released on the Windows Store. That version addressed various display and performance issues and introduced several quality-of-life features, including adjustable game speed settings, the ability to toggle random encounters, and additional gameplay assistance options.

About Final Fantasy VII
First released in 1997, Final Fantasy VII is one of the most iconic JRPGs of all time. The story follows Cloud Strife, who joins the resistance group Avalanche in their fight against the Shinra Corporation, an organization accused of exploiting the planet’s life energy for profit at the cost of environmental destruction.
The original version of Final Fantasy VII is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, alongside its modern remake series, which continues to expand the universe for a new generation of players.
