Little Nightmares III Interview with Producer Coralie Feniello

Revealing the story of world design and the co-op system that is the highlight.
I’m sure many gamers will be waiting to play Little Nightmares III, a new action platformer game that will immerse us in the world of nightmares from the perspective of a small child. This installment is considered more special than the previous installments, both in terms of multiplayer system and support for Thai language as well. Recently, ThisIsGame Thailand took the opportunity from Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia to try out the game in the co-op feature and share their impressions.
Q. First of all, I would like to know what is the concept of The Spiral, which is the main background, based on the design?
We wanted to show that Little Nightmares has a grander backdrop than the previous Nowhere. The enemies and the environment are not the same, they are very different. Instead, we have made sure that players can enjoy and follow the game content without any flaws.
Q. What inspired the new scenes in Necropolis, Candy Factory, and Fairground?
For the new Little Nightmares III, we wanted to experiment with new environmental designs, which in Necropolis is a new idea with a warm background color scheme but still retains the same DNA. Use unique items to solve puzzles to complete these paths. In addition, every place has a story behind it, and we try to make it connected.
Q. The balance of the character’s speed is the same as the game’s DNA. How does the team prepare for the new players?
And when the protagonist is a ‘child’ who enters a cruel world like this, it will be a challenge from their point of view. Honestly, we’re very happy to launch a co-op system so that everyone can play as an option.

The concept of horror
Q: The game has a lot of scary enemies, such as giant babies and circuses, so is there anyone on the team who has adapted these fears into ideas
? A: The theme of the game that we tried in this game is reflected by many people, both childhood fears and fears that are direct and indirect experiences. For example, in amusement parks, not only children may be afraid, but some adults are paranoid about flashing lights, noises, etc.
Q. The giant baby is like an idea that perfectly turns something seemingly ‘innocent’ into a terrifying nightmare. Want to know if there are any other enemies that use what we see in our daily lives to modify them?
Almost all of the elements of Little Nightmares are based on childhood fears, such as the theme park that builds on the idea of ‘what’s behind the circus curtain’, or even the teacher from the second game.
Q. What is the level of horror of Little Nightmares III compared to the first two installments?
A: Like the previous games, Little Nightmares III is based on a conceptual design. ‘Charming Horror’ We put two child characters in a world that is not kind to them, and it is a paranoia that comes from childhood fears or even adults.

Co-op Gameplay
Q. When the game is available to players both online and offline. With the nature of the puzzle and the scene that relies on the coordination of two characters like this. What challenges did the team have to customize the solo experience to bring the solo play experience to life
? As for the AI that is our partner, if you look closely from the previous installment, it has done a great job. Therefore, in order to make players aware of the relationship between Low and Alone, we have paid great attention to the movement animations of the companion characters to ensure that they look like real life, real human beings surviving together.
Q. How did the team design this co-op system to be consistent with the characters and puzzles?
What both Solo and Co-op have in common is that either way, Low and Alone will have to find a way out of The Spiral. Puzzle tries to balance it for both online and offline play, either with the angles of Alone and Low.

Q. The team thinks that telling stories through characters How is ‘two’ in the game different from the narrative or emotion of a single character?
In the last installment, Mono and Six traveled together, and they both went on an adventure until the end, and this part will be Low and Alone, which we think that when the co-op system is inserted, not only the characters themselves, but also the players will have the same experience with their adventures as well.
Q. Will the character’s actions affect the ending or the storyline?
The main story is linear and easy to understand, but some puzzles and moments may be special depending on the player’s decisions, or even the forced choice of the main character may allow us to see things from different perspectives.
The next direction of the game in the future
Q. Does the team see the future and direction of Little Nightmares, or do you think it will expand in the future?
We already have new media for Little Nightmares, such as The Sounds of Nightmares, a fiction podcast about a world called The Counties, and a VR game in development, as well as new comic books and animations. These will show new perspectives that players have never seen before in this game universe, but in terms of it, it may be too early to say that there will be a sequel.
Q. I would like to know more about the differences between the Nintendo Switch 1 and 2
versions. I think the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2 make Little Nightmares III closer to the 9th gen console with more robust hardware, which we’ve worked hard to develop and refine to make the experience great and enjoyable on any console.
Q. Which part of Little Nightmares III do you want players to experience the most?
Personally, I like the last chapter of the story. We want fans to really get to know each other and see behind the scenes of Low’s relationship with Alone. And there are also fun tricks.
