Roblox 2025 Stats: Why Southeast Asia is the Platform’s Engine

Roblox Dominates the Global Gaming Industry in 2025

In a year when much of the global gaming industry shows signs of slowing growth, Roblox has emerged as the clear outlier. According to 2025 industry analysis cited by analyst Matthew Ball, players worldwide now spend more than 10.25 billion hours per month on Roblox. That figure exceeds the combined monthly playtime of Steam, PlayStation, and Fortnite.

This milestone positions Roblox not just as the most popular game-related service of 2025, but as one of the most dominant digital entertainment platforms overall.

A Platform Growing Against the Industry Trend

Matthew Ball’s 2025 gaming outlook highlights a tough environment for many major publishers and platforms. After the post-pandemic peak in 2022, consumer spending and revenue growth across PC, console, and mobile markets outside China have largely stagnated.

Roblox, however, moved in the opposite direction. Ball’s report attributes 67 percent of total market growth outside China in 2025 to Roblox alone. Across PC, console, and mobile combined, Roblox accounted for more than 4.5 percent of total global consumer gaming spending for the year. In a market where growth is increasingly difficult, Roblox became the engine pulling the entire chart upward.

Daily Engagement at Massive Scale

Roblox’s dominance becomes even clearer when looking at daily usage. In 2025, the platform surpassed 150 million daily active users, representing a 69 percent increase year over year. These numbers indicate more than temporary popularity.

Players do not simply log in for short sessions. They return consistently, spending long periods inside Roblox’s ecosystem. This behavior increasingly resembles a social and entertainment platform rather than a traditional game.

Competing in the War for Screen Time

One of the most striking insights from Ball’s analysis is how Roblox compares beyond gaming. With more than 10 billion monthly hours, Roblox now competes directly with video streaming platforms like Netflix in total screen time.

While Netflix grows engagement at roughly one percent per year, Roblox has sustained engagement growth estimated between 25 and 70 percent annually since 2022. In simple terms, Roblox is winning the modern competition for attention by encouraging repeat visits, longer sessions, and continuous discovery.

Individual Games That Rival Major Publishers

Roblox’s ecosystem allows individual experiences to reach unprecedented scale. Ball’s report notes that some single Roblox games now generate more monthly playtime than the combined catalog of major publishers.

One example is Grow a Garden, which in 2025 reportedly surpassed the average monthly playtime of all Blizzard Entertainment titles combined in 2024. This highlights how user-generated ecosystems can outperform traditional studio-driven models, even without massive budgets or established IP.

The Challenges Behind the Success

Despite its growth, Roblox continues to face scrutiny. Critics and regulators have raised concerns around child safety, labor exploitation claims involving young creators, and aggressive monetization mechanics. These issues have led to lawsuits and regulatory attention in multiple regions.

As Roblox captures more global attention and playtime, these concerns grow in importance. The platform’s influence now extends beyond entertainment into social and economic spaces, especially for younger users.

Roblox as Its Own Industry

Matthew Ball argues that Roblox should not be viewed simply as part of the traditional gaming industry. Instead, it functions as a distinct digital economy with its own dynamics. Roblox is less about selling individual games and more about building a persistent place where people spend time, create content, and socialize.

In 2025, Roblox did not win because it had the best graphics or the strongest IP. It won because it became a destination.
