Ayaneo Pocket S Mini Brings 4:3 Display Perfect for Classic Console Gaming

Ayaneo Pocket S Mini Brings the Perfect Aspect Ratio for Classic Games

While the handheld gaming market continues to expand, most devices still focus on widescreen displays. Ayaneo is taking a different approach with its latest release, the Pocket S Mini, a premium handheld designed specifically for fans who want to revisit classic console games in their original 4:3 aspect ratio.

Marketed as a “true 4:3 retro handheld,” the Pocket S Mini eliminates the vertical black bars commonly seen when emulating games from the CRT television era. This makes it especially suitable for classic titles from older PlayStation and Nintendo systems.

Premium Design with Retro Focus

Although several handhelds already support a 4:3 screen, including the Anbernic RG405M and Ayaneo’s own Pocket Air Mini, the Pocket S Mini positions itself as a more high-end option. The device features a full metal frame paired with a glass front panel, giving it a more premium feel compared to many competitors.

The handheld is equipped with a 4.2-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 960, offering sharp visuals while maintaining the correct aspect ratio for classic games. Controls include Hall effect joysticks with RGB lighting, Hall effect triggers, and distinctive crystal-textured buttons, all designed to enhance durability and tactile feedback.

Hardware Specifications

Under the hood, the Ayaneo Pocket S Mini runs on the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 processor and is powered by a 6000mAh battery, providing solid performance for emulation and extended play sessions. This combination aims to balance power efficiency with the demands of retro and classic console gaming.

Pricing and Availability

Unlike many previous Ayaneo devices, the Pocket S Mini is not launching through crowdfunding. It is already available directly from Ayaneo with early bird pricing starting at USD 319 for the Obsidian Black or Ice Soul White variants, each featuring 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Retro Power color option is exclusive to the highest configuration, offering 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, starting at USD 479. Ayaneo has not confirmed when early bird pricing will end, but retail prices are expected to increase to a range between USD 399 and USD 559 once the promotion concludes.

With its focus on authentic presentation, premium build quality, and modern internals, the Ayaneo Pocket S Mini targets retro gaming enthusiasts who value accuracy and craftsmanship when revisiting classic console experiences.
