Final Fantasy XV PC Version May Have Once Included a Level Editor Mode

The release of Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition was considered a major surprise when it arrived on PC years ago. At the time, most Final Fantasy titles available on PC were online-focused entries designed specifically for computer platforms from the ground up. Seeing a mainline single-player Final Fantasy title make its way to PC for the first time in many years generated significant excitement among fans.
The PC version also introduced exclusive content, including a crossover collaboration with Half-Life in partnership with Valve, further setting it apart from the console releases.
Evidence of a Cut Level Editor Feature

Recently, a user known as Leo 🎮 FFXV resurfaced a set of intriguing development images that were originally shared through Famitsu long ago. These images suggest that the PC version of Final Fantasy XV may have once included an even more ambitious feature beyond mod support.
According to the materials, Square Enix had experimented with a built-in Level Editor mode that would have allowed players to create custom stages directly within the game itself, without requiring complex coding knowledge. Despite its potential, the feature appears to have been quietly shelved and never officially released.
What the Level Editor Could Do
The proposed tool reportedly included a wide range of creation options, such as:
- Designing custom maps and environments
- Creating quests and events
- Placing enemies and event triggers
- Setting basic animations and camera angles
The system was designed to be user-friendly, enabling players to craft their own stories and share them with others. One notable example shown in the development materials demonstrated how the game could even be transformed into a golf-style mini-game, allowing players to enjoy a completely different genre experience with Noctis.
From the visuals, the editor appeared to use a node-based system, where creators could simply drag and connect data elements to generate functional mini-games or scenarios with ease.
