Tomb Raider Sets Record as Best-Selling Female-Led Game

Tomb Raider Breaks Records as Best-Selling Female-Led Game

When talking about Tomb Raider, players immediately think of Lara Croft, the iconic treasure hunter known for her strength, agility, and unforgettable presence. Across decades, the franchise has expanded into multiple game installments, spin-offs, and adaptations, including films and Netflix animations.

Recently, Tomb Raider has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records in two major categories. First, it holds the record as the best-selling female-led video game worldwide, with combined sales from mainline titles, expansions, and mobile spin-offs exceeding 100 million units. Second, Lara Croft has also earned the distinction of being the most featured female character on magazine covers globally, reflecting her enduring popularity and cultural impact.

Latest Reboot Titles Continue the Legacy

The most recent Tomb Raider games, developed by Crystal Dynamics, highlight realistic environments, improved action mechanics, and immersive combat scenarios. Players guide Lara through perilous adventures across diverse landscapes, facing supernatural threats and explosive battles. All three titles in the rebooted universe are available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

Since her debut on PC in 1996, Lara Croft has maintained a constant presence in gaming, navigating highs and lows, and passing through several publishers. Following Amazon Games’ acquisition of the franchise in 2022, the new titles are now developed with Unreal Engine 5, though no further updates have been released yet.
