007 First Light Team Relieved as GTA VI Delays, Launch Set for 2026

007 First Light Team Relieved as GTA VI Delayed, Confident Their Spy Adventure Stands Out
Fans have been eagerly awaiting 007 First Light, the upcoming action-adventure James Bond game from IO Interactive, the team behind the HITMAN reboot. In a recent conversation with Games Industry, the studio shared their thoughts on the game’s release schedule, especially after the announcement that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) has been delayed.
Relief After GTA VI Delay
Hakan Abrak, IO Interactive’s CEO, commented that 007 First Light remains a key priority for the studio alongside ongoing HITMAN projects and a secretive fantasy game under development. After six years of development, the spy title is reportedly playable from start to finish. Abrak also clarified that the game will not be split into episodic releases, unlike the first season of HITMAN, ensuring players can enjoy the full experience without needing to replay 40-hour chapters.
Regarding GTA VI, Abrak expressed relief, noting that the spring 2026 release window now feels less crowded. While confident that GTA will remain a highly anticipated and industry-respected title, he acknowledged that the delay allows 007 First Light to shine without being overshadowed. However, games slated for 2027 may now face heightened competition for Game of the Year honors.
